Bruce has personas. He also has rigid compartmentalization and a somewhat fractured psyche. His saving graces are that he is aware of absolutely all of that, the dangers inherent in that, and an inflexible moral code.
He can read the faint frown, guess reasonably well what it's about, and makes no attempt to reassure or brush it away. Text tips can work well enough but this is Gotham and Bruce is paranoid; they're going to interact more directly. If this man wants to help (instead of come after him), he's going to have to eventually get used to some shit.
"Twelve years is right." He would know. "Thanks. I'll put things back where I find them. I assume there's still organization in play?" Harold didn't strike him as the type to just throw books on shelves or shuffle them for a good time. But that was a guess.
